Hands Off!, a group with dozens of partners, including Color of Change, Common Cause, and the Human Rights Campaign, has announced that tens of thousands of demonstrators will take to the streets on April 5.

Organizers anticipate that the date will conclude as the largest single day of protest since President Donald Trump was sworn in for a second term.

More than 600 events are planned across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and cities around the globe as participants demand that Trump and his billionaire friend Elon Musk, director of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), take their hands off critical programs that middle- and working-class families rely on.

A central event will take place on the National Mall in Washington, beginning at noon at the Washington Monument. Demonstrators will rally in defense of healthcare, Social Security, education, civil rights, and democracy itself.

“This mass mobilization day is our message to the world that we do not consent to the destruction of our government and our economy for the benefit of Trump and his billionaire allies,” event organizers said. “Alongside Americans across the country, we are marching, rallying, and protesting to demand a stop to the chaos and build an opposition movement against the looting of our country.”

Organizers stressed that all Hands Off! events are rooted in nonviolent action, with a shared expectation that participants work to de-escalate any confrontations with those who oppose their cause.

The April 5 protests come as Trump and congressional Republicans continue advancing policies aimed at slashing essential services. As their agenda escalates, so has public resistance.

According to the Crowd Counting Consortium, more than 2,085 protests were recorded nationwide in February 2025, more than double the number logged during the same month in Trump’s first term. During a recent weeklong congressional recess, voters organized over 500 events, including many in districts where Republican lawmakers declined to face constituents.

In cities across the United States—from New York to Florida, Texas to California—Americans are mobilizing to resist.

From rallies and marches to empty-chair town halls and online campaigns, the April 5 actions aim to spotlight the real-life consequences of the administration’s policies and amplify community-led resistance.

Beyond U.S. borders, solidarity is rising.

In London, protesters will gather at Trafalgar Square from 3 to 5 p.m. BST, where U.S. citizens, Canadians, Brits, and others are expected to rally in support of democracy and against what they describe as an escalating global crisis.

“They’re threatening to invade Canada, Greenland, and Panama — and daring the world to stop them. Well, this is the world saying NO,” organizers in London declared. “This is a crisis, and the time to act is now.”

From Washington to London and hundreds of points in between, April 5 will mark a day of unified resistance, as demonstrators demand leaders protect — not dismantle — the services, rights, and freedoms essential to everyday life.

“We’re not waiting for someone to save us,” said organizers in Washington. “We’re taking action ourselves.”
