In the deadliest terror attack in New York City since 9/11, eight people were killed and nearly a dozen suffered injuries Tuesday afternoon after a man drove a truck onto a bike path.
While details of the attack in lower Manhattan are still emerging, authorities have identified the suspect as Sayfullo Saipov, 29, of Uzbekistan, who moved to the United States in 2010.
President Donald Trump, who offered his condolences to the victims of the attack, tweeted that the suspect was a “sick and deranged person.”
According to police, the suspect most recently lived in New Jersey and had left a note in the truck, saying it was done in the name of ISIS.
Saipov, a father of three, was shot while attempting to flee. He was apprehended by an NYC police officer and spoke with officers prior to undergoing surgery.
