Texas Southern University has announced the establishment of the Mathew Knowles Institute, an online curriculum designed to teach students a wide range of practical skills necessary to succeed in the music and entertainment businesses.
Knowles, father of iconic singer Beyonce and founder of the former girl group Destiny’s Child, has served as an adjunct professor at the university.
The institute will be operated by the Office of Continuing Education and will offer certificates in management, sales, marketing, career development, human resources, entrepreneurship and entertainment.
“Texas Southern University is committed to supporting and exceeding the changing needs of our students due to the steady growth of online education and degree programs,” TSU President Austin Lane said in a statement. “Full online degree programs provide more flexibility in achieving a college education for our diverse community of learners.”
Knowles, 66, is a graduate of Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee.
In 1992, after working as a salesman for diagnostic imaging equipment, Knowles launched Music World Entertainment and became a major figure in the music business. He later branched out into television and films.
