Twelve weeks of study will come to an end on the 12 Things That Make Men Rich by Napoleon Hill. The final principle in the series: Financial Security.
One of the most important qualities discovered by Hill is to have a pleasing personality with faith, hope and confidence. Belief is a key factor which must become real to you, just as any earthly object that you can see, feel and touch. You must be persistent, never stopping, always moving forward with continuous action toward attainment of your goal. Promise yourself you will never stop trying until you actually achieve what you’ve set out to do.
What is Hill saying? Simply put, you’ve got to “Walk by faith and not by sight.” And you must “Know that your faith is the actual substance of the thing you are hoping for.” No one ever fails as long as they continue to try.
This study emphasizes how you go about setting and reaching small goals which eventually takes you to your destination.
If the only thing you can do is to talk about your dream, yet you never put any action toward its attainment, it isn’t going to happen!
Let’s just remind ourselves of the 12 points we’ve covered over the past 11 weeks:
Week One – Keep a positive mental attitude. Negative thinking will shut you down almost immediately.
Week Two – We discussed the importance of sound physical health. How can you get the work done that’s required, and think in a rational and consistent manner – putting in long hours when necessary – if you don’t feel well. Maintain good health by the exercise and diet you choose.
Week Three – Talks about how you’ve got to have harmony in all of your relationships with human beings; the people you have around you; harmony means just exactly that, each one complements the other. One bad apple can spoil the whole bunch!
Week Four – Learn to live your life free from fear. When you are fearful, you often become paralyzed and then there’s no action at all.
Week Five – Keep hope alive and believe that everything you plan to do in the future will occur whether it does or doesn’t. Failing is something that happens only to those who stop trying. Hope!
Week Six – Apply your faith. Believe that your goal will become a reality and keep working. You’ve got to actually put your faith in motion. You can’t just talk about your goal, move forward as if you know for sure that your dream will become a reality.
Week Seven – We discussed the need to be willing to share your blessings with others. The Bible reminds us of how it is more blessed to give than to receive.
Week Eight – Look at your future goal as a labor of love. You’d do it whether you got paid for it or not. Whatever it is you’ve decided to do with the rest of your life, love doing it, especially when there’s no money involved. That’s when you know that you’re on the right path.
Week Nine – Keep an open mind at all times. It’s essential and it usually works to your advantage.
Week 10 – Maintain complete self discipline. You won’t eat right and exercise if you’re not disciplined.
Last week, we tackled Principle No. 11. I reminded everyone how we must have wisdom with which to understand people with godly wisdom, but first, you must know yourself.
Once all of these principles are in place and functioning like a well-oiled machine, you will be on your way to financial security, which is the 12th principle in this series. It may not come overnight, but keep studying and applying these principles. Setting and reaching goals is a work-in-progress. Keep up the good work!
