Since the summer, Therme US has been busy talking to residents across D.C. about their health and wellness needs and where a potential Therme facility in the District should go.

But wait a minute, what exactly is Therme? Therme is an urban wellness oasis that combines the health and wellbeing features of a spa with a next-generation waterpark, as well as beautiful year-round indoor gardens, world-class food, and immersive arts and cultural offerings.

Last May, Therme entered into a partnership with Mayor Bowser to explore potential sites within D.C. that would be suitable for an accessible, affordable wellness facility. As part of this agreement, Therme’s been actively engaging with communities across the city by participating in more than a dozen local events, canvassing neighborhoods, holding briefings with community leaders and more.

In January, the Therme team braved the snowy weather to participate in the 5th annual MLK Day Health and Wellness Fair as part of our continued efforts to bring wellness to Wards 7 and 8. Partnering with local businesses, Blum Tea and Yoga Heights, Therme was able to connect with local residents excited about potential new wellness offerings in their neighborhood.

The data is clear: residents East of the River lack access to health resources, and it isn’t just medical care, a lack of accessible green space also compounds the problem. Therme’s vision is not only about improving the health and wellness of D.C. – access to nature is also a crucial part of that vision.

Next month, Therme will host a series of panel discussions and offsite community programming on March 1 and 2 as part of the Kennedy Center’s REACH to FOREST festival. Entitled “City in Green: A Forum on Nature, Art, and Urban Wellbeing,” the program builds upon Therme’s ongoing community engagement efforts across D.C. with a dynamic series of discussions and cultural activations.

Therme is bringing together a rich network of artists, scientists, and civic leaders on-site at the Kennedy Center and throughout D.C. to discuss the importance of green space in urban environments. As we work to bring a Therme facility to Washington, we’re making sure that all aspects of wellness are incorporated, and that our facility is more than just a building, but a catalyst for a healthier DC.
