Former Trump presidential campaign operative Paul Manafort was sent to jail Friday after a federal judge revoked his bail for witness tampering.

Judge Amy Berman Jackson ordered Manafort locked up until his trial begins in September on money laundering and several mother charges.

Manafort was ordered into custody in the wake of charges lodged last week by special counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating possible Russian ties to the 2016 Trump presidential campaign, that he had tried to persuade witnesses in his case to lie about their lobbying efforts on his behalf.

Prosecutors argued that Manafort, who has pleaded not guilty to at least two of the charges, was a “danger to the community” and that he committed the crime of obstruction of justice during his release on bail.
