Tuesday Was Worst Day of Pandemic in the D.C. Region: Report

Tuesday was the worst day of the coronavirus pandemic in the D.C. metropolitan area, according to statistics compiled from the health departments of the District, Maryland and Virginia.

On Tuesday, the District recorded 430 new cases and four deaths from the coronavirus. The District averages 43% more new cases each day than it did two weeks ago, according to a WUSA-TV (Channel 9) blog post.

Maryland had 67 fatalities due to the coronavirus and a high of 3,228 infections, Tuesday. Maryland reported 67 virus-related deaths and 2,665 new cases.

Tuesday had Maryland’s highest-single day death count since May 12, the blog reported.

In Virginia, a record-high 5,148 people are being infected on average each day, and 84 more Virginians — the state’s second-highest daily toll yet — have died from the virus since Monday, the blog reported. Plus, 4,561 new cases were reported Tuesday.
