Tyler Perry to Retire ‘Madea’ in 2019

Tyler Perry said Monday he plans to retire the “Madea” film franchise next year, giving fans a chance to say goodbye to the boisterous elderly woman he’s played for nearly two decades with next March’s “A Madea Family Funeral.”

“This is it,” the actor and filmmaker told Bevy Smith on her Sirius XM radio show “Bevelations.” “It’s time for me to kill that old b—-. I’m tired. We’re gonna say goodbye in ’19. I just don’t want to be her age playing her.”

Perry, 49, said he’ll also be taking the character on a “farewell” stage tour along with some of the original characters and actors from the eight blockbuster “Madea” films.
