The coronavirus positivity rate at University of Maryland’s College Park campus has tripled in a week to 2.7% as in-person classes resume Monday.
The university’s data dashboard showed a 1% positivity rate last week, but a university spokesperson said such an increase was anticipated as testing lessened and focused more on symptomatic people, WTTG-TV (Channel 5) reported.
The number of new cases stood at 63 for the week, some of which were student-athletes, WTTG reported. The development occurred as labs and graduate-level courses restarted.
As of Monday, Maryland had nearly 117,000 confirmed coronavirus cases, including roughly 3,700 deaths, according to state statistics.
