U.S. Again Sets Record for Daily Coronavirus Deaths, Surpasses 3,000 for First Time

The U.S. again has reported a record number of daily coronavirus-related deaths — the third time this month it has done so — with the toll topping 3,000 for the first time throughout the pandemic.

The country logged 3,124 deaths Wednesday, according to a Johns Hopkins University tracker, easily surpassing the record of 2,879 set just a week earlier on Dec. 3 — which had broken the mark of 2,804 recorded just a day prior.

The previous high was on April 15, when the U.S. logged 2,603 deaths.

As of Thursday, the U.S. has roughly 15.5 million coronavirus cases and 291,000 related deaths — both tops globally — according to the Johns Hopkins tracker.
