The U.S. reportedly has thrown out at least 15.1 million doses of coronavirus vaccines since March 1.

Walgreens, CVS, Walmart and Rite Aid have each wasted more than one million doses over that period, NBC News reported Wednesday, citing data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Specifically, Walgreens threw away 2.6 million doses, CVS abandoned 2.3 million, Walmart discarded 1.6 million and Rite Aid trashed 1.1 million, NBC News reported.

Additionally, the health departments in Texas, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Oklahoma each reported more than 200,000 wasted doses, NBC reported.

More than 443 million vaccine doses have been distributed in the U.S. as of Thursday, according to the CDC. However, only 371 million have been administered and just 52.6% of the total U.S. population has been fully vaccinated.
