The United States had at least 42,812 new coronavirus cases reported over the past 24 hours, according to a Johns Hopkins University tracker.
The U.S. leads the world with 7.2 million confirmed cases, nearly a million more than second-place India. For context, India has a population of approximately 1.4 billion people, roughly four times larger than the United States’.
There were 946 deaths reported Wednesday, according to the Johns Hopkins tracker. As of Thursday, the U.S. had more than 207,000 coronavirus-related deaths, also tops globally.
The figures are a slight increase from Tuesday, when 42,185 new cases and 914 deaths were reported, CNN reported.
