The United States reported the most new coronavirus cases in the world over the past week, says the World Health Organization.
The U.S. had a 131% increase in new cases for the week ending July 25, ABC News reported, citing a WHO epidemiological report.
Trailing the U.S. was Brazil, Indonesia, the U.K. and India, ABC reported.
The U.S. and much of the rest of the world are grappling with spikes in cases as the delta variant of the virus, which is far more contagious than the initial version, rapidly becomes the dominant strain globally.
This week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reversed its mask guidance, recommending that fully vaccinated people in COVID-19 hot spots resume covering their faces while indoors.
