The ongoing coronavirus pandemic, which has touched nearly all aspects of everyday life in one form or another, is now fueling a growing diaper shortage in the U.S.

The National Diaper Bank Network says the increasing “diaper need” — defined as not having enough to keep an infant properly clean and healthy— affects nearly 33% of American households, a CBS News affiliate in Portland, Maine, reported.

The need has intensified amid the pandemic, with the network saying some of its members have had a 500% increase in the number of requests for diapers.

Consequently, the shortage has caused some companies to raise their prices, the affiliate reported, citing the diaper bank.
