The U.S. set yet another one-day record of new coronavirus cases Thursday with 187,833, continuing the rapid upswing in cases that has ravaged the country in recent weeks.
The previous daily high was just a week ago on Nov. 13, when 177,244 cases were reported, according to a Johns Hopkins University tracker.
In the past week, the country saw a record 1,155,205 new cases, and the U.S. moving seven-day average has risen steadily since early September, when the number had dipped below 34,300.
As of Friday, the U.S. has roughly 11.8 million coronavirus cases and 253,000 related deaths since the beginning of the pandemic —both tops globally — according to the tracker.
