The United States now has more than 600,000 coronavirus-related deaths, a grim reminder of how badly the pandemic ravaged the nation even as the majority of U.S. residents have been vaccinated.

The death toll passed the 600,000 mark Tuesday, according to a Johns Hopkins University tracker.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the U.S. has approximately 33.5 million coronavirus cases and 600,039 related deaths — both tops globally — according to the Johns Hopkins tracker.

The U.S. has fully vaccinated about 146 million people so far, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. But health experts warn that with vaccination rates slowing and different variants of the virus looming, the pandemic is not yet over.
