Isrea Butler, director of bands and director of music programs at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, has been selected as the band director for the 369th Experience World War I Centennial Band.

The band is a recreation of the 369th Regimental Band, originally comprised of 65 African-American and Puerto Rican soldiers who performed in the United States and in Europe during World War I.

Butler will now lead the band of African-American and Puerto Rican male music students, which is slated to play in New York and Paris and many other historic locations as it retraces the performance schedule of the 369th Regimental Band.

Butler’s resume includes performances in eight Broadway productions, touring and recording with many of the country’s leading jazz orchestras, and playing all four chairs in the world-famous Count Basie Orchestra.
