The extra $600 in weekly unemployment benefits provided during the coronavirus pandemic officially expires at 11:59 p.m. Friday, with congressional leaders and the White House far apart on a new stimulus package.

Despite the lack of action, the Senate has already adjourned for the weekend. The House announced Friday that it will delay its traditional August recess until a deal is struck, but lawmakers and the Trump administration arenโ€™t close to an agreement, however.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows are scheduled to speak with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) by phone Friday and during the weekend, but no in-person meetings are planned, CNN reported.
