Venture X, a shared workspace and flexible office community, is opening a new space in College Park’s Discovery District this January to provide additional working opportunities for local businesses and workers.
The location will feature two conference rooms, one training room, a cafe, free parking, electric vehicle charging stations, and close proximity to food trucks and abundant dining options.
Moniesha Jackson Shorter, who also serves on the University of Maryland Alumni Association Board of Governors, will operate the space.
“Opening these doors is about more than providing desks and meeting rooms. It’s our way of stepping into the future of coworking while doubling down on a larger purpose: helping entrepreneurs take what they’ve imagined and build something real and lasting,” Shorter told The Informer. “Venture X College Park is meant for people with talent and hustle who are in need of support to scale their businesses, access to the right circles, and workspace they can actually afford. Those gaps can decide whether a business survives, especially for minority business owners.”
Tonya Sweat, a lawyer who lives in Accokeek, welcomes the option of new remote work spaces in Prince George’s.
“This is a great opportunity for remote workers and entrepreneurs. Venture X has a concept that is appreciated by 21st-century workers and businesses,” she told The Informer. “While I am glad Venture X is coming to Prince George’s County, I just wish it would add a location in another area of the county as well.”
Shorter, who had decades of experience in technology sales before her start with Venture X, is excited to offer a critical support system to develop minority-owned businesses.
“My goal with Venture X College Park is to create the kind of support system I wish existed when I first became an entrepreneur,” she said. “We’re here for professionals who are talented and driven but often face barriers like limited access to mentorship, networks and affordable infrastructure, all key factors that improve survivability for minority-owned businesses.”
