Virginia surpassed two substantial benchmarks this week in the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, reaching both the stateโs 900,000th case and 11 millionth administered vaccine dose.
The state health department logged 2,603 new cases Thursday, putting the toll at 900,581 since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, a CBS News affiliate in Richmond reported. An additional 2,357 cases were recorded Friday, bringing the current total to 902,938.
Virginia also went over the 11 million mark for vaccine distribution Thursday and currently sits at 11,036,157 administered vaccine doses, according to a state-run online dashboard. Roughly 69% of the state population has received at least one vaccine dose as of Friday.
The department reported 46 virus-related deaths Friday, bringing the overall toll to 13,391.
