Virginia’s number of confirmed coronavirus cases jumped by nearly 1,000 Friday, according to state health department statistics.

The department logged 89,888 cases — 984 more than Thursday’s figure of 88,904, Roanoke’s WSLS-TV reported.

The state’s death toll from the novel coronavirus now stands at 2,174, while roughly 7,900 people are hospitalized.

Virginia saw about 7,500 new cases over the past seven days — more than twice the number of reported cases during the week of June 19, InsideNova reported.
