Virginiaโ€™s confirmed coronavirus cases surpassed 1,000 as of early Monday morning, increasing by 130 cases since Sunday, according to the state health department.

Overall, 25 Virginians have died from COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus, and 136 have been hospitalized.

According to the health department count released Monday, 12,038 people have been tested, more than double than the total as of Wednesday.

Gov. Ralph Northam tweeted Monday morning that he would make โ€œa major announcementโ€ later in the day about the stateโ€™s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
