More than 1,000 Walmart and Sam’s Club locations will begin administering coronavirus vaccines Friday as part of the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program.
The pharmacies at those locations throughout 22 states began receiving an unspecified number of vaccine doses from the federal government this week, Walmart said in a news release.
Walmart and Sam’s Clubs pharmacies are also currently working with 11 other states to administer those jurisdictions’ vaccine doses.
The Biden administration last week said it will start shipping coronavirus vaccines to retail pharmacies beginning Thursday, with an initial total of one million doses headed to roughly 6,500 locations, CNN reported.
As of Wednesday, about 43.2 million of the country’s 62.9 million available vaccine doses have been administered, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
