Washington Gas pipeline replacement program

Securing the DMVโ€™s energy future starts with investing in the infrastructureย thatย communities rely on every day.

At Washington Gas, safety and reliability are at the core of that commitment. One of the most important ways the company is delivering on it is through our Accelerated Pipeline Replacement Programs (APRP) across Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia.

Just like roads, bridges, and water systems, natural gas infrastructure requires ongoing maintenance and modernization to continue operating safely and efficiently. Washington Gasโ€™ pipeline replacement programs are designed to proactively replace aging pipelines, strengthen the natural gas delivery system, and help reduce the risk of costly disruptions before they occur.

Each program is tailored to the communities it serves:

In Maryland, the STRIDE program has invested more than $680 million to modernize aging infrastructure and improve system safety and reliability for customers across the state.

In Virginia, the SAVE program has invested more than $1.3 billion in critical infrastructure upgrades while also supporting hundreds of good-paying construction and skilled trade jobs.

In the District of Columbia, District SAFE has delivered more than $407 million in investments to strengthen the natural gas system serving neighborhoods throughout the nationโ€™s capital.

Together, these programs represent a long-term investment in the DMVโ€™s future. Beyond improving infrastructure, APRP projects support local economies by creating jobs, generating economic activity, and helping ensure continued access to affordable and reliable natural gas for homes and businesses.

Modernizing infrastructure today also helps prepare the region for tomorrow. Replacing older pipelines with newer materials and technologies strengthens system resiliency, improves operational performance, and supports Washington Gasโ€™ broader commitment to delivering safe, dependable energy service to the communities it serves.

Across the DMV, Washington Gas crews are working every day to build a stronger and safer natural gas system for customers and communities alike. These investments are more than infrastructure projectsโ€”they are investments in public safety, economic growth, and the long-term reliability of the regionโ€™s energy network.

As the DMV continues to grow, maintaining and modernizing critical infrastructure will remain essential. Through STRIDE, SAVE, and District SAFE, Washington Gas is helping ensure the region has the affordable, reliable, and safe energy infrastructure needed for generations to come.
