Wells Fargo Connects with Blogger Owned Businesses, Hosts “The Perfect Pitch” Competition

A new breed of small business owners face expert judges while vying for top prize at the Blogalicious 5 conference 

CHARLOTTE, Oct. 18, 2013 – Wells Fargo joined with Blogalicious —the go to destination for multi-cultural digital influencers, social media enthusiasts and business owners —to launch “The Perfect Pitch,” a Shark Tank ® themed small business competition. During the fifth annual Blogalicious conference, finalists were able to pitch their businesses to a panel of expert judges for a chance to win a prize package, including, a $5,000 cash prize, business development support and exposure opportunities.

Nearly 300 fellow bloggers/business owners watched finalists pitch for their lives in front of esteemed panelists, Alfred Edmond Jr, SVP, Editor at Large, Black Enterprise Magazine, Chanda Moran, SVP, Business Banking Strategy, Wells Fargo Business Banking, Stefania Pomponi, Co-Founder/President, Clever Girls Collective, Jim Beach, Small Business Expert, Author and Radio Host and Erica Bracey, Small Business Consultant, Small Business Development Center in Atlanta.

Arsha Jones, Co-Owner of Washington, D.C.- based Capital City Mumbo Sauce walked away with the grand prize. Jones pitched her business concept around the Mumbo sauce product line.  While Lamar Tyler’s Black And Married With Kids (BMWK) Relationship Academy, an online relationship resource and Christine St. Vil’s Cravings!, delivery service catered to moms and moms-to-be were both great concepts, Jones had “The Perfect Pitch.” She stood out to the judges because she demonstrated a clear vision for her business and immediate next steps for continued growth. Lamar Tyler was chosen as the “Fan Favorite” by the crowd. All three contestants will receive business development guidance and mentoring.

“We didn’t have a business plan, it was all in my head, this contest helped bring it all together on paper,” says Arsha Jones, winner of Wells Fargo and Blogalicious “The Perfect Pitch” contest.  “We were able to see how much we had truly accomplished over the last few years and now, our winnings will help us work towards growing our brand on a national level.”

During the event, judges also engaged in a candid discussion around the state of small business, providing resources and information for attendees on planning needs, best practices and strategies for developing and growing small businesses.

The Blogalicious 5 theme was Create.Build.Fund, which provided attendees with the tools needed to help grow their personal blogs and brands into profitable entities. Wells Fargo worked in close alignment with Blogalicious as part of its social media engagement strategy to connect with key influencers. With non-traditional businesses on the rise, Wells Fargo is proactively making the necessary connections to enable these businesses to thrive.
