Jessica Krug, the white George Washington University professor who admitted last week that she has faked being Black, has resigned.
The university announced Krug’s resignation in a tweet Wednesday. Her profile has also been removed from the university website, the New York Daily News reported.
Krug, who specializes in African-American history, caused an uproar when she wrote in a Sept. 3 post on Medium that she had spent her adult life pretending to be Black.
“I have eschewed my lived experience as a White Jewish child in suburban Kansas City under various assumed identities within a Blackness that I had no right to claim: first North African Blackness, then US rooted Blackness, then Caribbean rooted Bronx Blackness,” Krug wrote. “You should absolutely cancel me, and I absolutely cancel myself.”
Her classes for this semester “will be taught by other faculty members, and students in those courses will receive additional information this week,” the university tweeted.
