The Washington Informer’s editor, D. Kevin McNeir, has been chosen as one of a select group of journalists who will attend the World Congress of Gerontology and Geriatrics as a member of the Aging Fellows Program, co-sponsored by the Gerontological Society of America and New American Media.
Participants will gather in San Francisco for four days, beginning Sunday, July 23, and will complete both a short- and long-term project.
McNeir says he will specifically focus on the challenges facing African-American senior citizens — something with which was he’s intimately familiar due to his commitment as the primary caregiver for his 89-year-old mother whose life has been significantly impacted by Alzheimer’s.
He will glean from fellowship workshops, research and interviews to prepare a series of health articles that will be published later this year by The Washington Informer, the National Newspaper Publishers Association and New American Media.
