In the wake of Donald Trump’s presidency, Nando’s Peri-Peri, a casual-dining restaurant chain that originated in South Africa in 1987, has taken a firm stance on the United States’ political leaders.

Last week, black signs began to appear in the windows of Nando’s six D.C. locations, along with 60,000 copies wedged in between pages of the free commuter newspaper Express.

On one side of the signs was an unbranded red heart and a block of text proclaiming: #EVERYONE IS WELCOME.

The other of the sign read, “Nando’s Peri-Peri is an Immigrant EMPLOYING, Gay LOVING, Muslim RESPECTING, Racism OPPOSING, Equal PAYING, Multi CULTURAL chicken restaurant where #everyoneiswelcome.”

The restaurant urged others to place the signs “in a publicly visible place to let everyone visiting our city know #everyoneiswelcome.”

Andy Rice, a branding expert in Johannesburg, championed Nando’s decision.

“Nando’s has really gotten under the skin of society here,” Rice said. “But its campaigns aren’t just about taking an abstract moral stance. They have helped the company carve out a unique commercial space in a country crowded with other fast-food outlets hawking chicken and fries.”

Lifestyle Diseases Becoming Africa’s Biggest Health Threat, Officials Fear

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes and high blood pressure, once considered a Western issue, now threatens all corners over Africa.

Carrying the weight of an estimated 54 low- and middle-income countries, the world’s largest continent is now also expected to have the world’s largest increase in NCD deaths over the next decade, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Although communicable diseases such as malaria, TB and HIV/AIDS are still prevalent in sub-Saharan Africa, WHO projects that by 2030, NCDs will become the leading cause of death.

Some of the options that WHO is promoting to reduce lifestyle diseases are raising taxes and prices on tobacco products, implementing plain packaging or comprehensive bans on tobacco packaging designed to attract consumers, increasing taxation on alcoholic beverages and enforcing bans on alcohol advertising.

Diet-related options include compelling companies to reformulate their food products to contain less salt to protect people from cardiovascular disease, and taxing sugary drinks, one of the main causes of obesity and diabetes.

Gabrielle Union Launches New Hair Care Line

Acclaimed actress Gabrielle Union is embarking on new journey with the launch of her new hair care line, Flawless.

Set to be released April 16 inside of Ulta Beauty stores, the line will contain 10 products ranging from $19 to $29 that include moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, smoothing shampoo and conditioner, hair masque, blow dry cream, hair protection spray, shine spray, oil treatment and edge control gel.

“I want women with textured hair to have great hair days,” Union said in a statement. “I went through a phase where I would leave my relaxer on so long, thinking the longer I leave this relaxer on, the straighter it’s going to be….In my mid- to late-20s I decided to give up my relaxer, and I went natural. By natural I mean underneath the weaves, extensions, clips and the hair color was my natural hair — thriving.”
