Former Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain has been hospitalized in an Atlanta-area hospital after testing positive for the novel coronavirus, according to a statement on his Twitter account.

However, Cain, 74, who was present at President Donald Trump’s rally two weeks ago in Tulsa, Oklahoma, was stable and not on a ventilator as of Thursday afternoon.

“Mr. Cain did not require a respirator, and he is awake and alert,” the statement read. “There is no way of knowing for sure how or where Mr. Cain contracted the coronavirus, but we do know he is a fighter who has beaten Stage 4 cancer.”

Last year, after Trump announced he would appoint Cain to the Federal Reserve Board, two women accused him of sexual harassment while he led the National Restaurant Association, which paid out settlements to the women.

Cain, a former pizza restaurant executive, denied the allegations and withdrew his name from consideration, saying the job’s $183,100 salary would require him to take a significant pay cut.
