Google Maps will now assist users in avoiding coronavirus hot spots.
The tech giant unveiled a “COVID layer” set to be rolled out this week for Android and IOS users to help traverse the world without getting the virus.
The device will show “critical information about COVID-19 cases in an area so you can make informed decisions about where to go and what to do.”
To activate the tool, users can tap the layers button in the upper-right corner of the Google Maps app screen and click on “COVID-19 Info” via the blog, which will show a seven-day average of new coronavirus cases per 100,000 people for the area of the map the user is looking at, with data from the World Health Organization and local medical institutions.
As of Thursday, roughly 32 million coronavirus cases and 978,000 related deaths have been reported worldwide since the outset of the pandemic, according to a Johns Hopkins University tracker.
