Gwen Ifill Alma Mater to Name College for Her

One of the schools at Simmons College in Boston where the late journalist Gwen Ifill earned her bachelor’s degree in communications in 1977 will be named in her honor.

Ifill, a veteran print and broadcast journalist who co-hosted PBS’ “NewsHour”and moderated two vice presidential debates, died a year ago at age 61 after battling cancer.

The school at the private college will be renamed the Gwen Ifill College of Media, Arts and Humanities.

The renaming of the school is expected to take place next year.

Ifill also worked as a reporter for The New York Times and The Washington Post before transitioning in the 1990s to the broadcast news arena.
