Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan announced Monday a drop in the percentage of residents testing positive for COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus.

The rolling seven-day average positivity rate fell to 7.38%, the governor said in a statement, WTOP reported.

Prince George’s and Montgomery counties, with rates of 11.83% and 10.26%, respectively, lag behind the statewide average. Nevertheless, Hogan said those rates are significant improvements from highs of 41.96% for Prince George’s and 32.64% for Montgomery.

The governor’s office said current hospitalization rates in Maryland has fallen under 1,000, the fewest since April 10, and that the state has conducted more than 435,000 coronavirus tests.
