Rep. Maxine Waters said Thursday her sister has the coronavirus and is on her deathbed.

Waters (D-Calif.) said she’s pledging new legislation to provide supplemental funding within the $484 billion stimulus relief package to small businesses, adding that $100 billion of the stimulus funding has been earmarked for hospitals and coronavirus testing.

“I’m going to take a moment to dedicate this legislation to my dear sister, who is dying in a hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, right now, infected by the coronavirus,” an emotional Waters said while speaking from the House floor Thursday.

As of Friday afternoon, the United States had more than 870,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19, the respiratory illness caused by the novel coronavirus, including more than 50,000 deaths.
