Nathan Bossard, a retired U.S. Airman and D.C. government employee, died peacefully on Jan. 15 at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center of natural causes. He was 94.
Born April 6, 1926, in Cincinnati as the youngest of four siblings, Bossard served in the U.S. Army during World War II before joining the Air Force in 1948.
His military career brought him to Andrews AFB in Maryland, where he was introduced by friends to Mary A. Williams, whom he married on Oct. 7, 1950.
Bossard received the high honor of Airman of the Year at Bolling AFB in 1969. After retiring from the military in 1970, he began his second career with the D.C. Government Office of Personnel Management, retiring after 20 years.
He was very active in civic and local government and formed a Cincinnati Club for transplants in the Washington area. He was a member of the Washington Masonic Pythagoras Lodge and was an avid golfer.
Bossard was preceded in death by his eldest son, Nathan Michael. He is survived by his wife of 70 years Mary, sons Geoffrey (Kimberly-deceased) and Kenneth (Jeanne), daughters Denise (Noble-deceased) and Jacqueline (Aaron), daughter-in-law Marilyn (Michael), along with 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandsons and many nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
A viewing will be held Saturday, Feb. 6 from 10:30 a.m. -11:30 a.m. at Berean Baptist Church in D.C. (924 Madison Street NW). Due to coronavirus-related restrictions, the memorial service and burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations to go the Disabled American Veterans or Fisher House Foundation.
