Several states recently reported days with zero coronavirus-related deaths for the first time in months as evidence of nationwide vaccination efforts becomes more apparent.

Texas had no recorded deaths Sunday for the first time since March 2020, Axios reported, citing the Houston Chronicle.

Arizona, Minnesota and Massachusetts also recently logged days with no deaths, Axios reported.

And in the D.C. region, Maryland on Monday recorded its lowest daily number of new cases since the outset of the pandemic in March 2020, the Baltimore Sun reported. Meanwhile, Virginia on Friday posted its lowest rate of new cases since March 2020, according to the Virginian-Pilot.

The nation’s metrics have improved enough for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to recommend that fully vaccinated people can abandon wearing masks in most settings, though many jurisdictions have shown caution in lifting their mask mandates.

So far, roughly 60% of the U.S.’s adult population has received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, with 37% fully vaccinated, according to CDC data.
