The U.S. now has more than 450,000 coronavirus-related deaths, hitting the grim milestone in the wake of the country’s deadliest month since the start of the pandemic.

The 3,912 deaths reported Wednesday put the U.S. over the 450,000 mark, according to a Johns Hopkins University tracker.

The country has far outpaced the rest of the world in both deaths and total cases throughout the pandemic. As of Thursday afternoon, the U.S. has 26,574,522 cases and 451,454 related deaths, according to the Johns Hopkins data.

By comparison, India, which has a population roughly four times the size of the U.S.’s, has the second-most number of cases with 10,790,183. Brazil is second in related deaths with 227,563.

The U.S. has also stumbled out of the gate in vaccinations. As of Thursday, the country had administered just 33.9 million of its 56 million available vaccine doses, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
