Us Helping Us, a D.C.-based nonprofit that provides support for persons living with HIV/AIDS, will soon expand its food services operation with the creation of a food pantry thanks to a grant from Amerigroup DC, a health provider for Medicaid recipients in the District.

The $15,000 grant will support local communities through the expansion of Us Helping Us nutrition and food programs.

“We greatly appreciate the support of Amerigroup. They recognize the other critical needs of our clients including food security. Us Helping Us will continue to look for ways to better meet the needs of the individuals we serve. The generosity of Amerigroup is a step in that direction,” said Executive Director DeMarc Hickson, Ph.D.

“Through our partnership with Us Helping Us we want to address the city’s goal to reduce HIV/AIDS infection by improving access to healthy food and nutrition education,” said Linda Elam, Amerigroup DC Plan President/CEO.

Since 1988, Us Helping Us has assisted individuals in the District living with HIV/AIDS, providing HIV prevention activities, testing mental health services and case management for Black, gay, bisexual men, transgender as well as straight men and women. For more information, go to www.ushelpingus.org.
