Virginia’s health department says a backlog of coronavirus data that hadn’t yet been entered into the system will cause an influx in results.

Information from 13,000 additional tests will begin to appear in the state’s coronavirus tracking dashboard beginning Tuesday, largely due to results from a Richmond-area lab arriving by fax and that data having to be manually logged.

“[S]taff had prioritized positive test results, which means the remaining backlog largely includes negative tests,” the department said in a statement. “The lab is now submitting tests results electronically.”

As of Tuesday, Virginia had nearly 52,000 confirmed coronavirus cases, including 1,496 deaths, according to health department data.
