Virginia Sees Increase of 951 Coronavirus Cases

Virginia reported 951 new coronavirus cases Thursday, bringing the state’s overall total to 47,856, according to the state health department.

The new numbers reflect a steady increase since Friday, when the overall total was 42,533, reported WSLS-TV, Roanoke’s NBC affiliate. The state’s death toll from the novel coronavirus now stands at 1,445, the health department reported.

Of the 951 newest cases, Fairfax County, located outside of the nation’s capital, led all jurisdictions in the state with 219 new cases.

As of Thursday afternoon, the United States had more than 1.8 million confirmed coronavirus cases since the outbreak began earlier this year, including nearly 108,000 deaths, according to a Johns Hopkins University tracker.
